Charleston student Matthew Gallo wrote a great post about what Day 1 is like at The Iron Yard. Hint: you dive right into writing code.
Today was a pretty awesome day. Nick, our Ruby instructor, made sure we had everything set up and ready to go this morning. And we didn’t wait around for anything to start coding away. I found his teaching style to be really easy to follow, we were following along right with his steps in the text-editor and/or the terminal.
So we learned about variable, defining variables, and calling methods to those variables. The homework , which was actually pretty fun, was learning 5 new methods and to call those methods on the following variables: strings, fixnums, floats, and booleans. It was cool to see how my examples from the first interval evolved and the different types of things I was doing by the time I got to the last variable.
Anyway, day one of class at the Iron Yard…CHECK! Looking forward to the challenges ahead of me!
