5 Upcoming Events You Can’t Miss

By Sarah Lodato, Campus Director

At The Iron Yard, we constantly encourage our students to participate in as many developer meetups, conferences, and hackathons they can. 80+ hours of programming per week at The Iron Yard can be all-consuming, but even developers need some time away from the computer to focus on their soft skills — if you haven’t spoken to another human being in a while, chances are you need to detach, too!

Check out this list of upcoming events we’re super excited about — maybe we’ll see you there?

1. Hack Nights with Code for Atlanta

Atlanta: 4th Tuesday every month

Join us every month for a monthly series of hack nights brought to you in partnership with Code for Atlanta. Each month civic-minded pitches will be presented (you can pitch, too!), and participants are encouraged to work on the project over the following months. Love hackathons? You’ll love this sustained involvement in Atlanta’s growth. Join our meetup group to participate.

2. Breaking Development

Nashville: July 28 – 30 & Orlando: November 3-5

The cat’s out of the bag — we’re a little biased on this one since it’s brought to you by The Iron Yard + Unmatched Style. 14+ world-renowned speakers with gather for focused talks and workshops at the Gaylord Opry Resort in Nashville this month to focus on the topic of mobile development & web design. Not quite ready to head out? Visit us at BDConf in Orlando this Fall for a stellar line-up in Orlando with a focus on responsive design in mobile development.

3. Forge

Atlanta Hackathon: August 22 – 24

Forge is a group bred right here in Atlanta, focused on connecting healthcare professionals with the business and software development resources needed for improving the industry as a whole. From sustained salons throughout the year to an annual hackathon, we love what they’re doing for the healthcare industry.

4. Maker Faire ATL

Downtown Decatur: October 4-5

We love the Maker Faire, and couldn’t be more excited that Atlanta’s faire has made it from “mini” to “featured” this year, putting us alongside the major events around the world. Hack, build, create — this year’s event will be larger than ever, with activities and sharing for makers, or maker-wannabes.

5. TEDx Peachtree: Illuminate Event

Atlanta: October 17

An independently-run branch of TED talks, TEDx Peachtree is hosting an event this year on the topic “Illuminate!”, featuring talks on electromagnetic radiation (what?!), light, learning, optics, space, and more!
