Moving on Up: Kate and RevTech

Kate McCarthy, in short, is leaving The Iron Yard family and starting up her first venture as CEO and Founder of ItsYourVet. We wish her the very best! Here are some of her final thoughts here on the TIY Blog:

I joined The Iron Yard when it was a single accelerator, in a single building, in a single city. I lead the first expansion out of Greenville, and in the 15 months since I became employee #3 at The Iron Yard, we’ve grown to seven cities across the South.

As you can imagine, it’s been quite a year. From (literally) building out our space in Spartanburg, to launching our first and totally kickass Digital Health Accelerator, to Demo Day at Health 2.0 in Silicon Valley, to Startup Weekend we hosted just weeks ago, it’s been a phenomenal ride.

I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the top Digital Health CEO’s in the country. From policy to technology, innovative business development to funding structures, I’ve gotten a unique view of the health startup world from the inside track. I’ve seen startups work 70-80 hours a week and raise a $1M plus in capital, and I’ve seen startups shut down operations after leaving it all on the field.

And now it’s my turn. That’s right folks – Friday was my last day at The Iron Yard, and today is my first day as the full time CEO of my very own startup, itsyourvet. A lot of people have asked me how I feel and this is what I tell them:

The cliff I jumped off is somewhere back there… and I feel totally awesome!

My startup, itsyourvet, has been accepted into RevTech Labs accelerator based in Charlotte, NC and we kick off today! Our platform allows vet practices to easily stand up their own telemedical presences, increasing access to convenient care for pet parents and driving new revenue to vet practices.

Vets can now schedule, conduct, and be paid for remote consults with patients. Pet parents no longer have to schlep Rex and Fluffy to the vet every time they need a follow up. It’s a beautiful thing.

The Iron Yard has been 100% supportive of my transition, and I will, of course, be 100% supportive of theirs. I’ll be helping to train our new operations person in Spartanburg  and telling everyone I know about what an amazing job I had while they seek my replacement.

(BTW- if you are passionate about building startups and communities, you should totally apply for my role!) 2013 was the best year of my life – but I think 2014 is going to give it a runs for its money.
